If you have a yard with lots of shade, conventional solar powered patio lights with a solar panel on each lamp is not an option. However, if you at least have a patch your yard where these is direct sunlight, such as on your roof, you can still use solar power to lighting, even if it is a little more costly and complicated to install. To use solar power in this situation, you need to install a solar panel on your roof or in another sunny area of your yard. The solar panel collects the sunlight and stores it as energy in the batteries below it. From here, you rig your lights to the solar panel as if you were installing a conventional lighting system. Run wires connecting the lights in your yard to the solar panel on your roof. Install a light sensor on the solar panel that cuts the power off unless its dark outside. This is a little more costly initially, but you won’t have to pay any electricity costs in the long term and it also helps green up your house.
