One of the most annoying, and disgusting, things about using a public information kiosk, ATM, or any other touch screen device that is open to the public are the greasy fingerprints. And while there is little to be done about the actual sanitation of these stations, there are some things that can be done to minimize the fingerprints that are left behind.

The simple solution is to offer a stylus for users to handle while making contact with the touch screen. However, the stylus could be just as bad as or worse than the screen if it were left to being finger operated. The user could always opt to use their fingernail if the length is appropriate for motor control. More advanced screens mitigate the fingerprinting problem by applying an optical coating to reduce the visibility of fingerprint oils on the screens.
