Hanging Patio Lanterns Offer Romantic Charm

Your patio is capable of providing you with a comfortable space where you can enjoy the luxury of a romantic dinner or just curl up on a chair and read a book on a lazy summer day. Patios have become more functional than ever and a lot of people are investing time and money to personalize them into beautiful nooks. A great budget friendly way of doing this is by using hanging patio lanterns.

Patio lanterns exude a romantic charm that is unmatched by traditional lighting and are available in different designs and styles to suit any price range. You can create hanging patio lanterns by using a string of fairy lights – this is great if you’re having an outdoor party. Make sure the bulb wattage is low if you want to create a dreamy lighting effect. The other benefit of having a low wattage is that nocturnal insects will not bother you. You can extend the fairy lights to your whole garden too.

Another interesting option is using old fashioned hurricane lanterns in different colors. They can be a little difficult to operate for a novice so make sure you read through an online lesson first. Otherwise, you can use a modern hurricane lantern that uses fluorescent lighting. If you want, go completely antique by sourcing these from antique stores or flea markets!

Japanese paper lanterns are also wonderful for use as hanging patio lanterns. These can be easily made at home as a family craft project allowing you to spend quality family time together! You can cut out stars, half moons or any shape you want through these lanterns to create unique lighting patterns!

You can buy such hanging patio lights in many stores. The styles available are not just limited to the ones mentioned above – if you have the resources, you can also get custom made lanterns.

Using Solar Powered Lights in Shady Yards

If you have a yard with lots of shade, conventional solar powered patio lights with a solar panel on each lamp is not an option. However, if you at least have a patch your yard where these is direct sunlight, such as on your roof, you can still use solar power to lighting, even if it is a little more costly and complicated to install. To use solar power in this situation, you need to install a solar panel on your roof or in another sunny area of your yard. The solar panel collects the sunlight and stores it as energy in the batteries below it. From here, you rig your lights to the solar panel as if you were installing a conventional lighting system. Run wires connecting the lights in your yard to the solar panel on your roof. Install a light sensor on the solar panel that cuts the power off unless its dark outside. This is a little more costly initially, but you won’t have to pay any electricity costs in the long term and it also helps green up your house.
