If you want to improve your landscaping around your house without having to call a professional to install anything, a simple addition of some landscape lighting might be your best choice.  Many lights require an electrician to install, but there are a few variations of lights that plug directly into a socket or via an extension cord.  A great light you can install yourself is a spotlight that plugs in.  A spotlight is simply a bulb that is made to direct the light towards a very specific subject.  You can purchase spotlights that are attached to stakes that go into the ground.  All you have to do is run an extension cord, screw in the light bulb, push the stake into the ground, aim it where you want it, and plug it in.  They tend to get very hot, so it is best to make sure you have it aimed where you want.
