Electric pallet jacks are much safer than manual pallet jacks in high-traffic warehouse environments. Keep in mind that your forklift operators need to be OSHA certified and trained. In most states, forklift operators need to be at least 18 years of age. Do not allow unlicensed or untrained employees to operate your material handling equipment. This is not only dangerous, you can also face the risk of the injury liability lawsuit. Keep in mind that you will be liable for forklift accidents, if they occur due to gross negligence on your part. This can be very expensive from a negative public relations standpoint, along with increased insurance premiums.

Many accidents occur every year in warehouses, which cost thousands of dollars worth of inventory damage, property damage, along with loss of life in certain situations. Forklifts are extremely power and much be treated with respect.  Loss of life may occur in forklift rollover accidents. This occurs because operators usually the underestimate the center of gravity while maneuvering pallets. This can also happen, if they are not familiar with new equipment.  This can also happen, if the merchandise on the pallet is not properly secured with stretch wrap. If you wish to reduce the chances of injury occurring, you may want to send your entire warehouse staff to a certified training refresher course. Courses are offered online, in addition to the traditional classroom training session.

Keep in mind that training is only valuable, if your entire staff attends the training course. To set a good example, your supervisor should be sent as well. Sending only general staff can create negative morale. Incentivize your workers to learn, by providing them with bonuses for attending the training session. You can also incentivize them by testing your warehouse workers, and giving a prize to those with the best safety test results.
