LEGO Batman – The Batcave: The Penguin and Mr. Freeze’s Invasion

Since 1949 LEGO has been a household name, and shortly afterwards, in the 1950s, Batman also became a household name. It is therefore only natural for the two to come together to produce some of the most popular play sets available on the toy and collector markets today. In this set, Batman takes on Mr. Freeze and the Penguin, two of the most cold-blooded enemies Batman has ever faced.

This is a complete Batman LEGO set is a Batcave set up, which consists of a prison, a double level control technical center and Batman’s famous rocket launcher and net launcher. This is in addition to a closet to change in and a weapons locker in which he stores all the weapons and other gadgets that make his enemies run like the wind. The cave is made to look exactly like that on television, complete with the modern updates.

The rocket launcher, just like all of the parts of the set once put together properly, fires at batman’s enemies perfectly. The Batmobile and Batboat also have moving parts in addition to a docking bay for repairing these vehicles when things do not go so well for Batman. Then after he comes back to the Batcave and is ready for bed, a dressing chamber and staging area make it easy for Batman to become Bruce again.

Figurines that come with the set include Batman, Bruce Wayne, Robin, Alfred, Mr. Freeze,  numerous Henchman, The Penguin and his three Penguin Minion. Additionally, both Mr. Freeze and the Penguin come with their respective costumes and vehicles, not to mention several weapons.

While the set is not too difficult to put together, if it is not done correctly, many of the figures and moving parts do not work. Adults should certainly supervise, especially since the smaller pieces can be a choking hazard.

The complete set consists of over a thousand pieces, which makes putting them together frustrating because they do not come in labeled bags. The various characters are spread out over the entire set and pieces are difficult to locate. The spiral staircase should be reinforced, however it is not and when it is used in a rough manner, it falls easily.

Overall, this set is by far the largest available by either Batman or Lego. This LEGO Batman, The Batcave: The Penguin and Mr. Freeze’s Invasion is a great addition to collections and toy boxes everywhere.
