New Female Hair Restoration Procedure Is A Success

Millions of women who are currently suffering from thinning hair or balding are very keen to know more about the drug Minoxidil and what it can do to help women attain thicker and fuller hair. This drug has long been used by men suffering from male pattern baldness. Now, this FDA approved drug can also be used and applied to treat female hair loss.

Almost 60% of the patients who pay a visit to doctors in order to consult on hair thinning and bald spots are women. Hair loss, especially among women, may have several causes such as extreme diets, hormonal changes, wearing tight braids or ponytails and accidents but the majority of these women are suffering from hair thinning for the same reason that most [balding] men do. The most common cause of this problem is the genetically inherited medical condition known as Androgenic Alopecia. In men, it is commonly known as male pattern baldness while in women, it is more known as female pattern hair loss, but the effects are the same. The hair follicles of the affected person are stopped from keratin production. Keratin is the material that composes the hair shaft.

Minoxidil, an FDA approved drug, is actually developed to protect the hair follicles from attack so that they can go on producing hair. A naturally produced substance in our body, DHT, is the reason behind the shutting down of the hair. DHT tends to bond with the receptors of hair follicles (hair roots) and it drains the follicles from nutrients and oxygen which are needed to continue the hair production. Minoxidil will bond with these same receptors but it allows the nutrients to pass into the body of the follicle where it is converted for the use of hair production.

For a woman who is interested in trying this female hair restoration treatment, a 2% solution of the drug is recommended for use while men are allowed to use a 5% concentration. The medication is applied and massaged into the scalp every morning and night. However, if you think your hair loss is caused by Androgenic Alopecia, then you should first consult a doctor. Minoxidil is a medication that can be sold over the counter but it is still recommended to get a doctor’s approval before starting any new treatment.
