Kiteboarding borrows boards for the most part from the sport of mountainboarding. The land based side of kiteboarding is a lot smaller and less glamorous than the more popular kitesurfing. A kiteboarder has different needs to a mountainboarder however. A shorter deck length is preferred. The reason being that it has a lower swing weight and also less weight on your feet when hanging from a kite. Stability from the trucks is less important as you are leaning against the kite which provides stability. All terrain skate trucks provide tighter turning circle and less stability than channel trucks making these the most common option.
in late 2008 the MBS Europe Pro Kite Team got together with the design team and created their dream kiteboard. The deck shape was unique to their requirements. The skate trucks were redesigned to provide increased strength at reduced weight. The hubs were made stronger and super light. The tyres provided great grip against the sideways traction which occurs whilst holding down big kites. The result was the MBS Pro 90. To this day it is still recognised as the market leader in terms of production kiteboards.
