Does Colon Cleansing Work?

Colon cleaning is promoted to insure good overall general colon health and sold as a basic “cure all” for a variety of conditions and ailments. It’s a modern equivalent of snake oil. No testing or biopsies have ever proven the theory of the toxic colon but many people still believe that materials and toxins build up in the colon over time because the colon is used by the body to dispose of wastes. People believe that these toxins and bacteria remain in the colon for extended periods of time and these toxins and bacteria then leak into the body from the colon. So, the “toxic” colon gets blamed for everything from bad skin to colon cancer to a lack of energy. You name it; it gets blamed on the colon.

These folks think that the ability of the body to absorb nutrients can become compromised, which is one of the problems that can occur when waste materials build up inside the colon. Basically, the nutrients cannot get past the layer of sticky waste build-up that accumulates on the inside of the colon walls. Quite a few otherwise reasonable people continue to practice colon cleaning despite a complete lack of evidence supporting it. They continue to believe colon cleaning works by preventing the build-up of waste materials on the inside colon walls, which can help promote good general colon health.

The absolute best thing you can do for your colon is to eat more fresh vegetables and fruits in your efforts to attain good general colon health, because they are high in natural fiber. The extra bulk provided by the fiber in these types of foods can keep everything moving along nicely and help prevent constipation. For good general colon health, a person should be having a bowel movement at least every day or two. Drinking water and eating foods that contain a lot of water also helps to prevent the occurrence of constipation. Materials tend to stay in the colon for an extended period of time when a person is constipated, but this will just cause bloating, stomach problems, and quite possibly lead to hemorrhoids but it will not lead to a “toxic” colon.

So, the best thing you can do for your colon is improve your diet. Keep your money in your wallet because the “toxic” colon theory has no basis in reality.
