The cost of liposuction is generally lower for patients of laser liposuction due to a number of differences in the technique used to remove fat from the body. Most liposuction procedures require general anesthesia which sedates the entire body for the surgery. It is common for the surgeon to hold the patient until the effects wear off enough for the patient to be safely returned home. The potential for an overnight stay will cost the patient as well as the dosage required for the procedure. The administration of general anesthesia will require a board certified anesthesiologist to be present which is another charge to the bill. Laser liposuction only requires local anesthesia so the patient requires a smaller dosage, which saves money, and can return home the same day of the procedure.
